Lendal LogoJohnson Outdoors finally announced that they have sold off Lendal Paddles to Celtic Paddles Ltd. which is owned and operated by Nigel Dennis. Long time readers should already know about this as we reported on the rumours (then eventually semi-confirmation) surrounding the sale back in the fall/winter.

Hopefully Nigel will be able to return the Lendal brand back to its once glorious self. I think it’s going to be an uphill battle considering Lendal has lost almost all its market share as a high-end paddle company since Johnson bought it back in Fall 2006. Believe it or not, there was a time when if you showed up at a sea kayak symposium with a Lendal, you were basically king of the beach.

On a side note, I'm suprised they haven't pulled the Johnson Outdoors element off the bottom of the Lendal website. As of today, it's still there.

The best of luck to Nigel and I hope to see their new blades in the local paddleshop soon.
