2006 Darwin Awards

Monday, 01 January 2007

They recently released the list of the 2006 Darwin Awards. I look forward to it each year. For those who don't know what it is, "The Darwin Awards salute the improvement of the human genome by honouring those who accidentally remove themselves from it..."

So basically you get a great list of stupid people getting killed by doing really stupid things. There is a collection of "final demises" ranging from Jason and Sara who died after crawling into a huge advertising balloon filled only with helium to the guy in New York who missed his train stop on the way to work. Rather then just getting off at the next station, he decided to force open the doors and get off in between stops. In his urgency to get off, he didn't release that the train was going 50 mph as well as going over a bridge at the time.

Who was the big winner? I will let you read all about it. Once clue; it involves fluorescent tubes, gasoline and pretending you are in Star Wars.

I just love end of year lists...
