93-year-old Boy Scout: Could this be USA’s oldest active canoe instructor?

Monday, 08 September 2008
Dick Ross - 93 Year Old Canoe InsturctorDick Ross from Indianapolis, Indiana is 93 years old and has been involved in the Scouting movement since he first started in 1927 at age 12.

Now, 81 years later, he is still involved and teaches canoe safety to adult scout instructors thru the Scout's in the Voyager Program.

He learned to love canoeing thru years at summer camp in Vermont in the 20's. He's an avid outdoorsman and birder. His yard is a sanctuary. But the canoe, he says, "it is just something I love to do."

His love of canoeing comes from the heart as he found one day when he picked up a paper and pen. Dick wrote: "I can make it dance, I can make it sing, it's like magic. I can create beauty by the art of my paddle."

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that he might even be the world's oldest. Prove me wrong people!
