Podcast: NPR looks at why kayaks are hot and canoes are not

Why the shift?

"Kids these days...they learn how to paddle in a kayak not a canoe, like the Boy Scouts did and do," says Ohio resident and former canoeist Ken Desmitt. "Families are buying three or four kayaks a piece if they can afford it...That's a big shift from buying one canoe per family."
