Sea Kayak Instructor Saves Diver

Friday, 03 October 2008
A big shout out goes to Graham Beckram who is a sea kayak instructor from Jurassic Coast Kayak Tours in Weymouth, Dorset in the United Kingdom.

Graham was leading a group on a day paddle when he came upon Mr. Wilding, an experienced diver who was being swept out to sea in a strong current.

Mr Wilding said: "When the tour came by I signalled them and at first they were worried there might be other divers in the area. He originally tried towing me in.

"The boat wasn't going anywhere so he took my dive kit off and stuck it on the front of the boat and I dragged myself on to the back and he paddled into shore.

"I was very grateful to him, he didn't panic which then kept everyone calm and I was impressed with how he kept the kayak steady with me on the back and my kit on the front because it must have been tough to paddle."

For those who might have heard Graham’s name in the back of your head and can’t quite place it, he is one of the partners of Ocean Paddling Magazine and friend of our site.
