Werner Paddles Decides to Sponsor Little Old Me

Werner Paddles LogoI'm very happy to announce the support of Werner Paddles for PaddlingInstructor.com and myself as a kayak instructor.

Werner Paddles have proven to be an industry leader when it comes to both design and craftsmanship. They look great and perform even better in the water.

For me, their sponsorship is a natural fit as I have been using Werner paddles pretty much exclusively for over 10 years now. I remember when I first started kayaking; I was cleaning out a supply closet at the paddling school I was working at when my heart skipped a beat. There, buried behind a pile of old boxes and cash receipts was a dusty fibreglass Werner paddle. I don't remember the model but boy did it feel great to paddle. It was light, skinny and way cooler then my friends.

Werner Ikelos BentshaftA couple of years later chained to an office desk, I hurt my wrist due to a poor keyboard and mouse set-up. I decided to upgrade to a bent shaft Ikelos so there would be less strain on my tendons compared to the straight shaft models. It was a huge difference indeed and it's still my primary do-all paddle and I use it for both rough water and teaching.

So, I'm pretty excited and it's also very flattering that Werner was interested in my site. To be honest, it can sometimes be a little frustrating finding support because many companies put less value in supporting instructors compared to supporting large scale expeditions. Expeditions are great and it gets the sponsors name out there in print. My argument has always been that instructors should be outfitted with the best gear. After all, they are the ones with the greatest influence over what new paddlers purchase as gear of their own after the course is completed.

Thanks again to Werner Paddles for putting as much value in instruction as they do for expeditions.

Hey! I'm also now listed on the Werner Website! Its way down there at the bottom so don't be afraid to hit the page down button on your keyboard 8 or 10 times.
