Kayaking Sneaks into the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremonies

2010 Olympic MascotsThere was a lot of excitement at our house this past Friday night. It was the opening ceremonies for the Winter Olympics and everybody was thrilled. Not that we are any type of sports fans at all. The last time I went to a hockey game was when I was 17 years ago when my father felt that we would feel manlier if we went.

Anyways, team sports just aren’t our thing and I think that’s why I like the winter Olympics over the summer ones. It seems like there are a lot more individual sports.

Below is a short clip of the video that played right at the beginning of the ceremony:

Did you see the kayakers right at the beginning? How cool that kayakers were there (and the very first clip as well!). Over the weekend, I got to wondering who the paddlers were. Turns out that one of them was Michael Callaghan from Ecomarine in Vancouver.  He told me this, “I don't think it was a talent search, it was sheer blind luck! I happened to be the only person around at Ecomarine when Tourism BC called with the message that somebody was looking for some kayakers for a "photo shoot", so I called him and the rest is history.”

Later I saw this posted on Facebook:

So go back to the 54 second mark and you will see Bryan and family snowshoeing as a helicopter sneaks over them.

Cool eh? Go Canada!
