Posted on the Sweetwater Kayaks site in Florida:
Due to the uncertain economic climate, we regretfully will not be having our annual symposium this coming February.

Watch for an announcement of a symposium the following year.

Derrick over at KayakQuixotica asked earlier today if people are going to slow down on attending symposiums over the next year. Reader left interesting comments posted after the article. Talking to other friends in the industry, they are all giving conflicting messages about if they are going up or down in the paddlesports world. I guess it depends on where you are living and what the main jobs are in your neighbourhood.

Johnson Outdoors just posted their fourth-quarter results for 2008. Boiling things down, sales slipped 6.3% to $81.8 million from $87.3 million the year before. They also announced that they will be cutting about 7% of their workforce which is about 90 jobs.
