Maelstromkayak Vaag 174BOREALDESIGN Kayaks announced today that they will now be manufacturing the boats for Maelstromkayaks.

For those not in the know, Maelstromkayak is a very small boat company out of Quebec that has quickly gained a reputation of good looking, well designed kayaks based on British designs.

Maelstromkayak have had two strikes against them on their quest to be the best boat company out there; manufacturing and distribution.

The new deal that they signed with BOREALDESIGN should hopefully help to solve those issues. BOREALDESIGN will now manufacture the boats as well; they will be taking over distribution for everywhere outside of Quebec.

The boats will still be labelled as Maelstromkayak.

You might ask, "Why would a large kayak company want to take over building boats from another company?" It's a great partnership from several different angles.

From a manufacturing perspective, it will help keep the BOREALDESIGN staff working hard building boats. Jobs won't be lost which is a good thing for everybody.

From a marketing perspective, it will help BOREALDESIGN bring new boat lines and designs to stores. BOREALDESIGN has always focused on the intermediate market and outside of their Ellesmere model; all their boats are focused on beginners and intermediate paddlers. This will help flesh out the top end that is currently missing (my own personal opinion) from BOREALDESIGNS line-up.

This is also a great partnership for Maelstromkayak as it will help solve their manufacturing and distribution issues until they get big enough to build their own factory.
