Lendal Paddles LogoAs you know, we have been following the rumours over the past couple of months about Johnson Outdoors selling off the Lendal Paddles line.

Everybody has been very quiet over the whole thing and nobody would confirm or deny what looked like a done deal. That seems to have changed as Nigel Dennis of Sea Kayaking UK, has started talking. According to a source close to the investigation, Nigel confirmed that he recently purchased the Lendal name, manufacturing equipment and all outstanding stock Johnson and is currently in the process of moving it back to the UK.

Plans are sketchy at this time but Nigel hopes to have everything up and running for Spring, 2010 with product rolling off the line April, Mayish.

No word yet on what shops will be selling the new Lendal blades in North America but that information should come out mid-winter.

I think it’s great that somebody is willing to take on and revive this dying brand name. I remember when I was a young beginner paddler, owning a Lendal paddle represented the pinnacle of success as a paddler. If you owned one, you had to be the best. Those days are long gone but under Nigel’s leadership, could we see a revival? Only time will tell.
