Boring Site News
Not Dead, Just Busy Thursday, 21 February 2013
You are correct if you've noticed that things have been really quiet around here over the past month. The reality is that real-life got in the way and I was extremely busy with a bunch of regular projects including helping out with the development of the new Rapid Media website (the gang that brings you Adventure Kayak magazine). Have you seen their new site? You should. I know I’m pretty biased but I think it is going to become a pretty big online powerhouse of paddling information. Now that a couple of other big projects are in the process of also winding down I should have a bit more time to work on other stuff including my beloved Paddling Headquarters...
Paddling Instructor is dead. Long Live Paddling Headquarters Saturday, 01 December 2012
I’m super excited to finally unveil Paddling Headquarters, the next step for Paddling Instructor. The idea for the rebrand started a couple of months ago when I was looking back through the site archives and I realized that even though there is a lot of teaching resources and “how to teach” articles scattered throughout, the site is much bigger than that. I think the name; Paddling Headquarters is more about what this place really is. A spot for people to come and discover the crazy weird stuff out there related to the outdoor world. For those who might worry, I don’t have any plans to change the type of content I currently posting. It’s all stuff that interests me so why would I write about anything different? I do have plans to expand the instructor resources available for download over the winter as some of the existing content is getting a little long in the tooth. So let me know what you think. I’m always interested in your thoughts, story ideas and suggestions. A very special thanks to goes out to Keith Wikle for the name suggestion, it’s greatly appreciated. You should have heard the duds I was going to name it...
New Layout Rolled Out Friday, 04 November 2011
You probably noticed that there is a new layout for paddlinginstructor.com. I decided a couple of months ago that the site needed to get a new paint job and while I was tinkering under the hood, I decided to do a full engine and transmission overhaul. With just under 2400 articles, I decided that the menu structure needed a bit of tweaking to help find old articles a touch easier. I also dropped a large social networking element of the website that nobody was using anyways. There are still a lot of bugs to still get worked out and broken URL’s to connect back-up. The biggest so far is getting comments displaying again throughout the site. It should get itself sorted out sometime over the weekend. I hope you enjoy the changes. If you don’t well there are other sites you can visit.
Off to Lake Superior Friday, 19 August 2011
I’m off for a week teaching in Wawa, Ontario on the north shore of Lake Superior so I won’t be posting anything until I get back. I’m excited to be working for Naturally Superior Adventures teaching a Paddle Canada Level 2 and BCU 3* course with instructor extraordinaire, Bonnie Perry who hails from Chicago, US of A.
