Palmer Fest adds a second weekend for sea kayaks and canoes

Friday, 13 March 2009
Palmer Fest BannerPalmer Fest is expanding. For the past four years the whitewater kayaking weekend in Palmers Rapids, Ontario has been extremely successful. For the first time, they are expanding and adding a sea kayak and canoe focused weekend which is shaping up to be a really cool and unique event.

Taking place May 8-10, National Sea Kayak Symposium and CANOE 09, it will offer beginner and advanced on-water clinics. One of the things that makes this event unique is the location. The deep moving white water of Madawaska River is famous for beginner whitewater instruction (class I-III) and makes it perfect for playing around with sea kayaks. It's the closest that us freshwater paddlers will ever get to playing in tidal rips or overfalls.

The schedule looks really good with tons of sea kayak and flatwater canoe classes including intermediate and advanced sea kayak clinics using the deep river features as ocean features, such as surfing, tides, currents and paddling in boils.

The other thing that makes this event unique is the strong family focus which is quite different from other symposiums. There are lots of kids paddling clinics (age 7 and up) along with daycare so parents and run away and jump on the water. Also, the women's only clinics are a nice touch as well.

Registration for both weekends is open for both weekends. If you are planning to go to the whitewater weekend (May 15-17), please note that it is already 30% sold out so register soon!
