Purple Lightning
I recently discovered The Great Turtle Race.

Eleven leatherback turtles are swimming across the Pacific Ocean to the Galapagos Islands in a "race" that will be tracked online to draw attention to the plight of the endangered creatures.

The turtles have been tagged with satellite communication devices that give their positions as they head south from their nesting sites on Costa Rica's Playa Grande beach to feeding grounds near the Galapagos, about 1500km away.

Once the race has started you are able to cheer on your favourite your turtle along the way.

I have decided to cheer for "Purple Lightning" sponsored by Yahoo!. The baseball card highlighting her bio and stats tells the story of her scars on her right flipper. When the competition heats up out there, I'm pretty sure there is going to be a couple good scraps towards the finish line. It's going to get dirty, I know it...

It is a fantastic idea to help raise awareness.
