Van Wijk will be kayak and canoe analyst for CBC’s Olympic coverage

BARRY's BAY, Ontario - Madawaska Kanu Centre President and kayak instructor Claudia Kerckhoff-Van Wijk will join CBC Television's coverage of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games from Bejing, China as an analyst for the kayak/canoe slalom events.
BARRY's BAY, Ontario - Madawaska Kanu Centre President and kayak instructor Claudia Kerckhoff-Van Wijk will join CBC Television's coverage of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games from Bejing, China as an analyst for the kayak/canoe slalom events.

Van Wijk is a 10-time Canadian National Whitewater Kayaking champion and was a bronze medalist in the World Championships in 1982. This will be the third time Van Wijk has broadcast the Olympics for CBC. The whitewater canoeing and kayaking courses will run from Aug. 11-14

"To me, this is a huge honor," said Kerckhoff-Van Wijk. "I take it very seriously to have all of Canada watch the sport that I am so passionate about."

Madawaska Kanu Centre has been the premier whitewater canoeing and kayaking facility in Canada since it was established in 1972. Developed by Olympic skiers and patterned after a European ski school, Madawaska features national and world champion kayakers working as instructors, world-class cuisine, a safe environment on the Madawaska River and weeks dedicated to instruction for women, families and seniors.

Cost for a week at Madawaska runs from $500 (Canadian) for a week's worth of instruction alone and $975 (Canadian) for food, overnight accommodations and equipment included. Weekend classes are also available.
