Brand Ambassador, Cynthia Aguilar Attempts Solo Paddle from Cuba to Key West

Friday, 10 September 2010

Ocean Minded LogoSAN CLEMENTE, CA - On Saturday September 11th, Ocean Minded Brand Ambassador, Cynthia Aguilar, 26, will attempt a one hundred and thirty mile solo paddle board crossing from Cuba to Key West, Florida. Aguilar is pursuing this open ocean paddle to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and her non-profit organization Keep Paddlin’, Inc.

“I’ve been having some reality checks over the past couple days, but I’d say that I’m really confident” Aguilar stated. “It’s game time for me. I’m in my zone, and I’m feeling really good about this. I’m ready to go.”

After training for over eight months, Aguilar anticipates completing the paddle in 36 hours, which will establish a new Guinness World Record for ‘Distance in Paddle Boarding’. Over the course of her paddle across the Atlantic’s deepest waters in the Gulf Stream, a crew will be filming a feature length documentary titled Dream Big: Inside All of Us Lives Hope. Through this paddle and documentary, Aguilar is hoping to raise awareness for local and national non-profit organizations and the sport of paddle boarding.

“I’m trying to give the kids hope, but I’m also trying to inspire as many people as possible” Aguilar says. “I’m hoping that everyone who hears about this will be driven to make an impact and have hope that they can do something, even something little, that will make a big difference for someone else.”

Through donations prior to and during her paddle, Aguilar plans to raise enough funds to grant over twenty wishes with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. For more information on Aguilar’s journey and how to donate, visit

Be Ocean Minded™
That simple idea is the foundation of our company. Being ‘ocean minded’ and living an ‘ocean lifestyle’ begins with the inspiration and allure that the world’s oceans and beaches offer each one of us. The Ocean Minded™ brand enables an individual to identify, visualize, and embrace their personal beach and water-oriented passions in the course of their daily adventure.

Live. Protect. Respect. ™
We can no longer deny that our planet is rapidly becoming a crowded and polluted place. Ocean Minded™ believes we should utilize recycled and sustainable materials in our footwear, apparel, and accessories whenever possible, and we consistently strive to achieve this.

Additionally, we feel that as both a corporation, and a group of individuals, it is essential to Live, Protect, and Respect our environment. Since 1996, we have been organizing community beach clean-ups around the world, and educating our customers on the importance of leaving their chosen playgrounds in better condition than when they were found.

Our belief that everything eventually ends up in the ocean has led us to host additional clean-ups in the mountains, as well as on the banks of inland rivers and lakes.

These values are the cornerstones of our Brand, and we invite you to Be Ocean Minded™
Footwear. Apparel. Accessories.
