Video: Tying the Highwaymans Hitch with Doug Alderson

Doug AldersonAuthor, Doug Alderson recently uploaded two really cool videos which are posted below. The first one is a quick lesson on the super practical Highwayman's Hitch knot.  The Highwayman's Hitch is a fantastic quick release knot with a whole pile of uses. The best one being that you can use it to make a quick tow line without requiring clips or buckles. With a little practice a basic piece of floating line can be set up to provide a secure towline that can quickly be released from both ends.

The second is a great little slideshow. The description of the video from the site, "Look around and see the big picture. While boating there is a lot going on above and below you."

Doug is one of the Canada's top sea kayak instructors. He has written several books including the Sea Kayaker's Savvy Paddler: More than 500 Tips for Better Kayaking and Sea Kayaker Magazine's Handbook of Safety and Rescue. If you only have the cash to purchase two books on Sea Kayaking, get these two.

Update: Sadly the videos were pulled form Vimeo the site today (January 21) for some reason. That's to bad. They were really good.
